Co-create practical solutions with top Master’s students from Utrecht University
Each year, Master’s students in Innovation Sciences and Sustainable Business & Innovation (SBI) at Utrecht University work in teams to solve real-world sustainability and innovation challenges for external organizations. Over a 10-week period, student teams deliver research-based recommendations tailored to your organization’s needs—free of charge.
Why Participate?
- Receive professional, research-based analysis of a sustainability or innovation challenge
- Gain tailored recommendations grounded in academic insights
- Engage with a team of five highly motivated Master’s students
- Obtain a final report, executive summary, and presentation
Participation is free. We only ask that you provide a clear project challenge and internal support.
What Is Expected from You as a Client?
- Appoint an internal supervisor or contact person to guide the student group
- Help orient students to the organization and its challenge
- Provide access to relevant information, data, or interviewees
- No fixed time commitment—most groups meet with you weekly or as needed
Example Topics Include
- Sustainable business models and impact strategies
- Innovation policy and stakeholder engagement
- Supply chain transitions, life cycle assessment, carbon accounting
- Circular economy strategies and metrics
- Organizational change and innovation management
Timeline
Phase | Timing |

Early Engagement | January – March Students begin selecting clients. Early submissions are encouraged. |
Project Period | Late April – End of June Student teams work full-time on your challenge. |
Final Presentation | Last week of June At the University campus, and also typically at the client to relevant internal departments |
Deliverables | Final report, management advice, and optional extras agreed upon with your team. |
Note: The course starts every April, but students begin exploring topics and selecting clients as early as January.
